Photography Exhibition: Philadelphia Museum of Art - Treasures of the Alfred Stieglitz Center

Group of Leaves on a Tulle Background, Charles AubryThe Philadelphia Museum of Art has become one of the foremost exhibitors of fine art photography in the nation. Treasures of the Alfred Stieglitz Center: Photographs from the Permanent Collection is an exhibition worthy of the Museum's outstanding international reputation for photographic art.

This exhibition runs through April 7, 2013.

The exhibition showcases highlights from the Museum’s photography collection, tracing the medium’s history as a visual art form.

Included in the exhibition are rarely seen nineteenth-century masterworks by William Henry Fox Talbot, Gustave Le Gray, and Charles Aubry. In additional there are works are modern and contemporary works, by Charles Marville, Florence Henri, Roy DeCarava, Hiroh Kikai, and Joachim Koester.

In addition, my favorite part of the exhibition are works by Alfred Stieglitz and Dorothy Norman. Ms. Norman helped to found the Alfred Stieglitz Center at the Philadelphia Museum of Art in 1968 through the gift of her collection of photographic works.

This exhibition is well worth a visit. I expect to revisit it before it closes next month.

As I travel, I love seeing the work of other photographers as I hope you do. If you know of a new photographic exhibition which you think the Blog should publicize, please contact me.
